Saw Slipknot on Wednesday in Sacramento. One of the best shows I've ever been to
Full story of this rather eventful concert and more pics under cut. Its a little long, but a LOT happened.

( METAL!!! )
On a related note, I was walking through campus as I was late for my midterm, and I was listening to my iPod and the Slipknot song came on "My Plague" which is the single they used for the Resident Evil movie soundtrack. Just as I rounded the corner, there were seriously about 12 Zombies walking through campus. My hand intinctly went for the knife I keep in my pocket, but then I realized a split-second later that they were students dressed up for "Zombie Day" or some crap. I walked right through the hoard silently daring one of them to fuck with me (my knife was NOT drawn mind you). It was a fun coincidence.
Midterms suck. |

I get them now.
I used to idolize these movies (well...the first and second one mostly) in high school, and I understood they had deep psychological and social commentaries attached to them, but I just didnt get them at age 16.
I know Reloaded and Revolutions catch a lot of shit for not being as digestable as the first one. People say that the plots are paper thin. The truth is that the last two are not tying for the social commentary / every-internet-nerd-and-hacker's-wet-dream-of-becoming-a-cyber-super-hero.
Both are one cohesive, self-inclusive story. Not a commentary.
That, and you guess I have to be drunk to understand them.

Video Game Rant:
The new Prince of Persia.
WTF??
He's not a prince and they're not in Persia! There is NO WAY to die, which takes all the challenge out of the game. Anytime you fall, your magician sidekick saves you. EVERYTIME. There is a clear seperation between combat and parkour, unlike the Sands of Time trilogy where there was a beautiful and sleek marriage between the two. Oh, and the dialogue is slightly painful.

I guess I see my hometown kinda like NeverLand. The people I left there have stayed pretty much the same since the end of high school. The years take their toll, but they seem relatively carefree compared to life here in San Francisco. Maybe because Escondido doesnt allow as many opportunities to grow. Still....I miss them horribly.
I never want to go back to that town to live. But maybe to be close enough. I dont know. I'm just thinking aloud. With my luck, if I ever went back, everyone would leave for one reason or another.

Seriously, we gave a holiday to a dude who got lost, planted a flag in the wrong continent and began the end for an entire race of peoples.

I've been playing through "Too Human" by Silicon Knights whilst reading The Children of Odin. Its an interesting and awesome combination.
For those of you who dont know (and thats prolly most of you), "Too Human" is a game heavily based on Norse Mythology with a heavy dose of Sci-Fi scooped on top. Imagine the Norse Gods as cyberneticly enhanced superbeings revered as deities. The game does keep to the myths very well, but everything has a futuristic twist to it. The nine worlds, Yggdrasil, the Aesir, Fenris, the Runes, etc. are all included.
Specifically, the game takes after the story of "The Doom of Baldur", which The Children of Odin outlines in great detail. Baldur, "the well-loved" has become targeted by Hel (half-woman, half-corpse) to be her little boy-toy in Hellheim. The only way Hel will get him is to kill him, so Baldur's mom, Frigga tells everything in the world to not harm Baldur, but she forgets to ask Mistletoe. So Loki makes an arrow out of the stuff and makes Baldur's poor blind brother Hodur shoot him at a party. Didnt anyone tell Loki not to take advantage of the handicapped? Anyhow, after Baldur's friend Hermod fails to enter Hellheim to rescue him, the Aesir find Loki, strap him to sharp rocks and make a viper drip its venom onto his eyes for all time. Sucks to be him...
Anyhow, the game opens with Hermod entering Hellheim and taking Baldur from Hel's realm by force, and she is PISSED. Hence creating the conflict for the game.
Being as big of mythology nerd as I am, a good number of the story's eventual plot points I have already figured out, or at least strongly suspect. I can see how people who are unfamiliar with the story of Baldur's doom and/or those who can't read runes wouldnt see said plot twists coming (seriously, there is a lot of flavor added to the game if you can read runes). Sure I gain geek points, but the fact that Silicon Knights is playing to the fans shows they've done their homework, and made a good story.
Unfortunately, the gameplay leaves much to be desired, and many of the mechanics are pretty damned clunky. But being as aforementioned a huge mythology nerd, the fact that SK created a Sci-Fi world about Norse Myths allows me to easily swallow down many bad design issues
Here be Zero Punctuation's review. He's pretty harsh on games. But I have a real soft spot for "Too Human", and reading The Children of Odin helps set a great contrast and context for this take on one of my favorite stories.
